What does "Zeitgeist" mean?
The spirit of the time; general trend of thought or feeling characteristic of a particular period of time.
What is The Zeitgeist Movement?
The Zeitgeist Movement is a global grassroots decentralized activist organization advocating social change, most significantly that of society transitioning from a Monetary Based Economic system to a Resource Based Economic system.
What is a Resource Based Economy?
A Resource Based Economy is a system that gives people the access to the goods and services they need without a price tag like food, water, shelter, medical care, entertainment and more. It is done by using technology at its highest capability. For instance to produce products, automation would be implemented in all points of production so people would not have to be subjected to mundane labor. The goal of this system would be to raise the standard of living of all human beings on the planet not just a select few like we have today.
So what will people do with their time?
The average person today only has a few hours of free time a day if any at all to do what they would like to do. Although in the current system we are only as free as our purchasing power. So some of the things we would like to do are not within our reach, like traveling, hobbies, art, music, spending time with the family. Today forms of entertainment are driven by the Profit Motive, but when people are free to create new forms of entertainment there is no limit to the human imagination.
What will motivate people?
All of the nice things we have today are because of the research and development by scientists and engineers. The most amazing breakthroughs in science and technologies did not happen because of the motivation to make money, but by the passion for their field and advancement of knowledge and betterment of man kind. People will be motivated to help because it is in their interest to help one another. If your neighbor designs a new amazing product everyone will be able to Enjoy it Tomorrow.
How will I get access to the things I need and want?
Much like today we have centers where we get the things we need, shoping centers, there would be resource centers where we can go and visit and see the latest products that have been produced with the latest technologies. You would be able to taste, try, customize, and experience any of these products and submit a request. The request will be processed, the product developed, and then sent to your home. Most products if not all products will have a Cradle to Cradle design, so when you are done it is either Reused or 100% Recycled. This will eliminate the waste we see in today's society. The rest of the time you would just request the things you need or want just like online shopping today.
How do we get from our current system to an RBE system?
This is a long process that will take many, many years. The Zeitgeist Movement is here to reduce this transition time to as fast as possible. Right now we are in an Awareness Stage as a movement. This means we are just trying to get the word out that there is another way to live on this planet that benefits all the worlds species.
